I grew up a farm girl in coastal Delaware, a state with less than one-fifth the population of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex, the place where I live and work. As a kid, our family pretty much ate what we hunted or grew, not to mention that I trudged twenty miles to school each day, in deep snow, uphill both coming and going. Although the road I’ve traveled from the First State to Texas, first in my heart, has been anything but straight, or straightforward, I’ve loved the journey, and embraced the challenges I was offered along the way.
Sports occupied me as a kid, playing fast pitch baseball with the boys, batting lead-off and chasing down fly balls in center field. My big sport in high school and college was field hockey. My road to the Olympics ended with a blown knee during trials, but I enjoyed great success with my college team, the Blue Hens of Delaware. I’ve retired my hockey sticks, but love to bike & golf, and as before, excellence is my goal, as it is when serving my clients.
I can’t say that the young me yearned for a career in finance, but when Vanguard hired me after my introduction to a senior executive, I threw myself into the job and discovered my life’s work. My passion is to help educate folks to get them ready for retirement. So many people don’t adequately prepare for that, with often sad consequences. I want to help people avoid being left short of the financial resources they’ll need when they retire, by tailoring plans that work well for both employers and employees.
I earned my MBA in mid-career, while working full time. I chose my MBA program carefully and was rewarded with an experience that has enriched my life and endowed me with skills that enhance my ability to serve my clients well. I am especially proud of my success in a very challenging program. For me overcoming challenges is a big theme, both for myself and for my clients.
Away from work, I am a pretty serious foodie, cyclist, and golfer. I like great wine, and enjoy hanging out with my man, our friends, family and our pets, two gray cats and an two Australian Shepherds who are, quite naturally, the best dogs ever.
